cause of the month – december

‘Tis the season for giving – and for the month of December, 3Fold will be serving an amazing Sacramento organization called Sunburst Projects. As a compassionate, local nonprofit, Sunburst Projects has helped improve the lives of thousands of mainly low-income HIV/AIDS affected family members and children since 1988. There are plenty of opportunities to help the organization, especially during the holiday season. 3Fold will be participating in a program called “Adopt a Child Project” where we’ll be donating gifts to a deserving child. Basic necessities (like toilet paper, soap, laundry detergent, etc.) are always needed as well and are extremely helpful to Sunburst Projects and their families in need.
To find out more about Sunburst Projects please visit their website: www.sunburstprojects.org.

River City Food Bank has fed thousands of people experiencing hunger from everywhere in Sacramento County. Open daily, the organization offers healthy, 3-day emergency food as well as vouchers for emergency shelter. Their compassion for Sacramento’s hungry has inspired us to give back to people who need it most. With National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week on November 16-22, 3Fold chose River City Food Bank as our November Cause of the Month.
3Fold will be volunteering at River City’s facility on November 19—and we encourage you to consider giving back in a variety of ways:
• Organize a food drive for your business, in your child’s classroom, or amongst neighbors
• Volunteer by packaging emergency food supplies
• Donate money
To find out more about River City Food Bank and how you can participate, please visit their website at www.rivercityfoodbank.org.

A purrrfect organization for our feline friends, Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary is Sacramento's first no-kill pet facility. A few of 3Fold’s own have even adopted their cats from the sanctuary, so we have a special place in our hearts for Happy Tails’ dedication to animals. After hard work, and a great deal of passion, Happy Tails is now opening a new Adoption Center where they can house and care for more of our four-legged companions. We ask that you join us in supporting this excellent nonprofit at their grand opening on Saturday, October 17 from 11am-5pm; where there will be tours, entertainment, and complimentary food/ beverages! The new Happy Tails Adoption Center is located at 6001 Folsom Blvd. in East Sacramento.
If you can’t make it to the grand opening, you can join us for Jewels and Drools on November 14. This exciting event features a silent auction of fun and fine jewelry, area wines, and restaurant gift certificates – and all proceeds go straight to Happy Tails. The auction will be held from 6pm-9pm at the Pavilions Shopping Center - 563 Pavilions Lane. For more information about Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary and the events, please visit happytails.org.

Fifteen years ago—on September 27, 1994—Sacramento lost a true pioneer and visionary, Michael Himovitz, to a difficult battle with HIV. Michael was an art lover. It was his passion, and he wanted to share his enthusiasm of art with the world. Along with the help of a few neighboring galleries, he founded Second Saturday in 1984. Michael advanced art awareness in the Sacramento region, but his reach went beyond the arts. He was dedicated to AIDS prevention, helping organize various events in the community.
The Sacramento art scene is what it is today thanks to all the gallery owners, artists and patrons who work tirelessly to carry on the tradition of Second Saturday. On September 12, 2009—Second Saturday—Michael’s children, Lucas (3Fold’s own) and Julia Himovitz have organized several art galleries in midtown to request donations in honor of their father. All donations will go to CARES’ (Center for AIDS Research, Education and Services) Are You the Difference? campaign, a hopeful and ambitious initiative dedicated to eradicating all new cases of HIV in the Sacramento region within the next five years. For more information about the campaign, please visit areyouthedifference.org.

It’s amazing how a tragic incident can bring to light so many new possibilities. This month, we’re supporting Steve Hornsey, an honorable disabled man who embraces new possibilities. After an accident in 1980, Steve chose to not let his situation bring him down; instead he took on a challenging sport. Today, 29 years later, Steve is more than just the average water skier – he is a World and National Disabled Water Ski Champion.
At the 2008 Disabled Water Ski National Championship trials in DuQuoin, Illinois, he qualified for one of the eleven positions allotted on the U.S. Disabled Water Ski Team. His passion is water skiing; and his dream is to bring home the “Gold” as a 2009 U.S. Team Member by competing at the World Disabled Water Ski Championships in Vichy France, August 30-September 6, 2009.
How can we help? U.S.A. Water Ski provides some funding to athletes, however the location of the tournament and size of the team (which includes sit-skiers, blind skiers, and arm and leg amputee skiers), cause travel expenses to be very costly; therefore, each individual is responsible for raising the remainder of the funds to support their attendance. Expenses for this biennial event will cost approximately $6,500 per athlete.
For more information about Steve’s story and to generously donate towards his dream – please visit www.stevehornsey.com.
Let’s get Steve to France!

Looking for a very easy way to be part of an important issue that needs attention? This month, 3Fold is encouraging our friends, family and clients to help Laura Ling and Euna Lee—two journalists captured in North Korea.
You can learn more about their story by visiting www.lauraandeuna.com or watching a short video we created on YouTube. At 3Fold, we believe that Laura and Euna were bravely telling the stories of Chinese and North Korean victims of human trafficking. While they broke North Korea's laws to tell these stories, we support their quest for bringing attention to an issue that few people are brave enough to tell.
cause of the month...june

In honor of Dads everywhere, 3Fold’s Cause of the Month for June involves one very special local organization— The Center for Fathers and Families.
We love that this nonprofit is providing enrichment and educational resources to families, but they can’t offer their services without the help of our community. One easy way to give this month is by bringing a new or used board game to our 5th Anniversary Party on June 13. By doing so, you can provide a local family with a fun and free bonding activity.
Game ideas might be a deck of cards, Monopoly, Chutes & Ladders, Candy Land, Sorry, or other kid friendly options. Of course, we’ll be collecting games all the way through the end of June so if you have to miss our party, (shame!) drop by any day during business hours. Thanks for helping us better our community.

As part of American Red Cross Month, we organized a group at 3Fold to give blood.
According to BloodSource, blood only lasts 42 days. Given that, it is important that there is a constant supply of donations. In the Sacramento region, the American Red Cross contracts with BloodSource for donation efforts.
We encourage you to gather a group of people from your office to also give blood. To find out more info, such as how to schedule appointments or eligibility requirements, visit the BloodSource website.
